We already know: I can give a thing away. Now more is at stake. I must also give property away as property. Only in this way does my will become truly tangible for me.

What does this mean?

When I give something to another person, he wants to have it. My will passes over into his will. In this way I see my will outside, in another human being. Then it is no longer only in me.

Two wills become one. Both want the same thing. In this they give up their difference.

And yet both stay different. The buyer wants the goods. The seller wants the money. Each remains a will of his own, with his own aims.

Summary: In a contract two wills become one and yet stay two. In this way my will becomes visible in another human being.
