{"id":4685,"date":"2021-12-01T10:45:12","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T09:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grundlinien.de\/?p=4685"},"modified":"2026-08-22T19:39:52","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T17:39:52","slug":"48","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grundlinien.de\/en\/48\/","title":{"rendered":"48"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The body, insofar as it is immediate existence, is not adequate to spirit; in order to be spirit&#8217;s willing organ and animated instrument, it must first be <em>taken into possession<\/em> by spirit (<a href=\"https:\/\/grundlinien.de\/en\/57\/\">\u00a7 57<\/a>). \u2013 But <em>for others<\/em> I am essentially a free being in my body, as I immediately have it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only because I am alive as a free being in my body may this living existence not be misused as a beast of burden. Insofar as I live, my soul (the concept and, at a higher level, the free) and my body are not separated; the body is the existence of freedom, and I feel in it. It is therefore only an ideaeless, sophistical understanding that can make the distinction that the <em>thing in itself<\/em>, the soul, is not touched or attacked when the <em>body<\/em> is maltreated and the <em>existence<\/em> of the person is subjected to another&#8217;s violence. <em>I<\/em> can withdraw from my existence into myself and make it something external \u2013 hold particular sensation away from myself and be free even in chains. But this is <em>my<\/em> will; <em>for the other<\/em>, I am in my body; that <em>to be free for the other<\/em> is possible only as being free <em>in existence<\/em> is an identical proposition (see my <em>Science of Logic<\/em>, vol. I, p. 49 ff.).
