Als diese substantiellen Bestimmungen sind sie für das Individuum, 296 welches sich von ihnen als das Subjektive und in sich Unbestimmte oder als [das] besonders Bestimmte unterscheidet, hiermit im Verhältnisse zu ihnen als zu seinem Substantiellen steht, – Pflichten, für seinen Willen bindend.

As substantive in character, these laws and institutions are duties
binding on the will of the individual, because as subjective, as
inherently undetermined, or determined as particular, he distinguishes
himself from them and hence stands related to them as to the
substance of his own being.
