In this dependence and reciprocity of labour and of the satisfaction of needs, subjective self-seeking turns into a contribution to the satisfaction of the needs of all others — into the mediation of the particular through the universal, as a dialectical movement — so that, in that each acquires, produces, and enjoys for himself, he thereby also produces and acquires for the enjoyment of the rest. This necessity, which lies in the all-round interweaving of the dependence of all, is now, for each individual, the universal, permanent resource (see § 170), which contains for him the possibility, through his culture and skill, of participating in it, so as to be secured for his subsistence — just as this acquisition, mediated through his labour, preserves and increases the universal resource.
