The family completes itself in three aspects:
a) in the shape of its immediate concept, as marriage;
b) in external existence — the family’s property and estate, and the care for these;
c) in the upbringing of children and the dissolution of the family.
Marriage and the begetting of children –
a) The family self-enclosed within itself
b) External existence of the person. Preservation
c) Dissolution – into independence – or several families – a different principle of independence in relation to one another.
§ 160: Three sides of the family
The family unfolds in three stages.
First, marriage. The family begins with it.
Second, the family’s property. The family needs an external existence: a home, possessions, and the care for them.
Third, the upbringing of children. When the children have grown up, they start families of their own. So the family dissolves.
Summary: The family has three sides: marriage, the shared property and the upbringing of children. When the children become independent, the family dissolves.
