The ethical dissolution of the family consists in this: that the children, brought up to free personality, are, upon reaching their majority, recognized as legal persons, capable, in part, of having free property of their own, and, in part, of founding families of their own — the sons as heads, the daughters as wives — a family in which they now have their substantial determination, over against which their first family recedes to the position of a mere first ground and point of departure, and, still more, the abstraction of the stock has no rights.
