The individuals of the mass, since they are themselves spiritual natures and thus contain within themselves the doubled moment — namely the extreme of individuality knowing and willing for itself, and the extreme of universality knowing and willing the substantial — and therefore attain the right of these two sides only in so far as they are actual both as private persons and as substantial persons, attain, in those spheres, partly immediately the former and partly the latter, in that they have their essential self-consciousness in the institutions, as the universal that is in itself of their particular interests, and partly in that these institutions grant them, in the corporation, a business and an activity directed toward a universal purpose.
