§ 36: The first command of right
Right follows from the person. Whoever is a person can have rights. This capacity is the basis for everything that comes in the first part.
That is why the command of this right is very simple:
Be a person and respect others as persons.
Both halves belong together. I should assert myself as a free I. And I should grant the same to everyone else. No one is only a thing, no one only a tool.
Summary: Because a human being is a person, he has rights. The first command says: Be a person and respect others as persons.
