But it is time to close this preface; as a preface, it was anyway only proper for it to speak externally and subjectively of the standpoint of the writing to which it is prefixed. If a content is to be spoken of philosophically, it tolerates only a scientific, objective treatment; and so, too, the author must regard any contradiction of another kind than a scientific treatment of the matter itself as merely a subjective postscript and arbitrary assertion, and must be indifferent to it.
