|309| absolute thing, as absolute bond with a determinacy, is the highest contrariety to reason and infamy.
γ. In the child the family itself is wrested from its contingent, empirical existence, or from the singularity of its members; and it is secured against the concept through which the singularities, or subjects, annihilate themselves; the child is, as against the appearance, the absolute, the rational element of the relation; and what is eternal and lasting; the totality which produces itself again as such. But because in the family, as the highest totality of which nature is capable, the absolute identity itself remains something inner and is not posited in the absolute form itself, the reproduction of the totality is also an appearance, that of the children; in the true totality the form is absolutely one with the essence, so that its being is not the form drawn apart into the isolation of the moments; here, however, what persists is something other than what is; or reality hands over its persistence to an other, which in its turn likewise lasts only by becoming, and transfers its being, which cannot remain in it, to an other; the form or infinity is thus the empirical, negative form of being-other, which sublates a determinacy only by positing another, and is positive only ever in an other; the power and the understanding, the difference of the parents, stand in inverse relation to the youthfulness and strength of the child, and these two sides of life flee each other, and follow upon each other, and are outside each other.
