|260| no longer alien power, but the known universal will142) – tyranny is overthrown by the peoples because it is said to be abominable, base and so forth, – but in fact only because it is superfluous, – the memory of the tyrant is abhorred; – he is precisely therein also this spirit certain of itself, which as the god acts only in itself and for itself, and is prepared only for the ingratitude of his people – But were he wise, – he would himself lay aside his tyranny as soon as it is superfluous, – but as it is, his divinity is only the divinity of the animal, the blind necessity, which deserves to be abhorred precisely [as] evil – Robespierre went about it thus –, his strength has left him, because necessity has left him, – and so he was overthrown by force – What is necessary happens – but each part of necessity is usually allotted only to singulars143) – the one is the accuser and defender, the other judge, the third executioner, but all are necessary.
