|282| thought, but it is a longing for heaven, and a longing likewise for the earth; the former is the pis aller. – It has satisfied through religion, the trust that the events of the world and nature are reconciled with spirit, and that no discord, no unreconciled, selfless necessity reigns in them –
Religion, however, is represented spirit, the self which does not bring together its pure consciousness and its actual one, to which the content of the former stands opposed in the latter as an other. –
The184) thought – inner Idea – of absolute religion is this speculative Idea, that the self, the actual, is thinking; – essence and being the same, – this so posited that God, the otherworldly absolute essence, has become man – this actual one, – but likewise this actuality has sublated itself, become a past one, and this God, who [is] actuality and sublated, i.e. universal actuality, is the spirit of the congregation – That185) God is spirit – this is the content of this religion and the object of this consciousness – α) of pure consciousness α) eternal essence, Son, and Spirit, here all the same essence; not the difference, the indifference of immediate being posited this186) β) God, the essence of pure consciousness, becomes to himself an other, which
