|221| will upon itself, upon the extreme of its singularity; (character is directed only upon itself as universal) – To it as consciousness this appears as aiming at the death of another, but it aims at its own, suicide, – in exposing itself to danger.

It74) therefore intuits its sublated external existence; this existence is its very own; it transforms the being-sublated of that alien one into that of its very own being-for-itself; because it is reason. – The restoring is the taking up of its existence into the abstraction of knowing. – Cunning is knowing, being-within-itself, knowing of itself, – as will is only drive; in drive the extremes have the form of indifference, of being; it is not yet a knowing; the knowing will is to be fulfilled α) as of love, with the knowing of the immediate unity of the two extremes, of them as selfless; β) with recognition, with them as free self; the former is the fulfilment of the universal extreme, – the latter of the singular; i.e. the making of it into the whole syllogism; this syllogism has the extremes in the form of being-for-itself within it. That cognising becomes recognising. – They are knowing themselves as being-for-itself, – thus they are separated – The movement is the struggle of life and death. From this each emerges [in such a way] that it has seen the other as pure self – and it is a knowing of the will; and that the will of each is knowing, i.e. reflected within itself perfectly into its pure unity. Driveless will; determinateness enveloped within itself – not to know being as something alien.
