b. Contract
This being-recognised in exchange, which has become object, or my will is existence, as is that of the other. The immediacy of being-recognised has come apart. My will is represented as valid not only for me but for the other, and it is as much as existence itself. – Value is my opinion of the thing; this my opinion and will has been valid for the other (mediated through his opinion and will); I have performed something, I have externalized myself of it; the negative is positive; this externalization is an acquiring.89) My opinion – of the value was valid for the other, and my willing of his thing. They intuit one another as such whose opinion and will has actuality. It is a consciousness, a distinguishing of the concept of being-recognised: will of the singular is common will, proposition or judgement – and his will is his actuality90) as externalization of himself, which is my will. This knowing is expressed in the contract. – It is the same as exchange – but ideal exchange91) – α) I give up nothing, I externalize nothing, perform nothing – but my word, speech, that I will externalize myself, – β the other likewise – this my externalizing is likewise his will; he is content that I leave this to him, γ) it is also his externalizing; it is common
